Great App

Okay, I’m going to start off by saying that I love the app. It works wonderfully, and the technology seems to be greatly engineered to check when I really am sleeping and when I wake up. The audio recordings are great, they’ve caught me saying some hilarious things in my sleep.
I do have some suggestions. I understand that the feature where you can either shake the phone or hold the button for three seconds are meant to make sure people are really awake and getting up. Well, I happen to be a pretty light sleeper, and I get up very well, and I own the full version of the app but I’ve noticed that there is no option to just tap to disable the alarm. I’d like this feature to be implemented if it’s not too much to ask.
Also, I think it may be cool to have a dream journal added. Like when you wake up, there may be a notepad there for you to begin typing out what you dreamt, and it keeps track of the night you dreamt it and stores it somewhere. There should also be an option to click a button that says, “I don’t remember what I dreamt.” And to go back and begin a journal entry if you didn’t remember it at first but now do/didn’t have the time to type it then.
Thank you for your time!

Still over heating

So, this app worked perfectly for me, the paid version, for over a year. Then one night it won’t let me set the alarm. I tried to go to edit settings and everything. But I didn’t want to stay up all night trying to figure it out, so I deleted the app, losing all that data, and reinstalled it. This was earlier this month.
Then, I received a message from the developer about how I must have left something on or off and a bunch of other stuff I didn’t understand (this is supposed to be an easy app for sleepy people!) except I had checked all that and by then, I had already deleted and reinstalled and moved onto the next problem: the overheating.
Since the new download/reinstall, whenever I use the Pillow app my phone won’t charge AND it overheats. I plug it in per the instructions, and lay it by my pillow, just as they advise and I have been doing for the past YEAR. And no, it’s not a faulty battery or any other app. The overheating and power drain only happens when I use the Pillow app and it’s only been this last month after I reinstalled it. Is it background ads? I paid for the app the first time. Am I supposed to pay for it AGAIN? I mean, what has changed. Not me. It’s NOT ME. It’s the app. So, figure it out and fix the app cuz in the course of a month, my rating has gone from 4 to 3 to 2.

Developer Response,

Hello! From the description of the issue it appears that you had selected a sleep mode that disabled the alarm functionality. We recommend that you check your sleep mode to verify that you have the desired setup. You can check or change your sleep tracking mode from your iPhone by swiping up over the start button on Pillow's alarm setting screen (you may notice a handle icon there to indicate the swipe availability) and the mode selector should be presented. Also note that Pillow performs processor intensive tasks, but we do not expect it to cause any overheating. If you have noticed that your device is overheating we would suggest that you contact a certified technician to check your devices and we also recommend avoiding covering the device with bed covers in order for the device to be properly ventilated (see https://pillow.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/367887-how-do-i-need-to-place-my-device-during-sleep). Our support team is at your disposal if you require further assistance. To contact support: Open Pillow on your iPhone → Tap on the Settings icon → Select ‘Helpdesk'.

I like the app despite its inaccuracies

I like this app and find that it is helpful with my current goal of trying to get more sleep so I can be more clear and productive every day. I purchased the Premium version because I wanted to hear what noises I could possibly be making at night. The sound recording seems to work only intermittently, despite the fact that the phone is about a foot from my head and the mic sensitivity is on high. It also will sometimes record several notes a minute, for about 10-15 minutes, and those notes end up being empty when I've gone to listen. Also, despite the fact that in my 'notes' I put 'read' almost every night and 'ate late' only once or twice, it says that I ate late about 36% of the time and read 11% of the time - even after I went in and put 'read' on almost every night to see if it had an affect - that part of the app does not work. Also, the sleep aid music worked before I paid for the app when I was going to sleep. Now if only works when I'm not using my watch. It does work for naps on my watch, just not when I'm going to bed at night. (I do wonder how it can tell the differences between light, deep and REM sleep.)

Developer Response,

Hello! Thank you for reaching out. We're really glad you enjoy Pillow. Regarding the audio recordings, please note that Pillow cannot record any audio while a sleep aid is playing either from Pillow or another app and this could explain why sometimes you are not getting any audio recordings. If you believe that's not the case, please contact our support team to investigate further. Also, the percentage value in the sleep notes indicates how much your sleep quality was affected, not the frequency of each note. Regarding the sleep-aid music, it should always play regardless of whether you use the Apple Watch. Can you please contact our support team and let us know more about this issue? Lastly, to learn more about how Pillow's sleep analysis algorithm works, please check an article that we posted about this on our blog on the following link: https://neybox.com/visualising-sleep-in-pillow/ . To contact support: Open Pillow on your iPhone > Tap on the Settings icon > Select 'Helpdesk'.

Finding the right pillow depends on your sleep position

The purpose of a pillow is pretty simple: Keep your head and neck aligned while you sleep. If only shopping for pillows were as straightforward. Store shelves and catalogs are stuffed with options: Down, memory foam, latex, polyester, buckwheat hulls. Adding to the confusion is the fact that terms used to describe pillows—such as soft, medium, and firm—differ from brand to brand. And price isn’t necessarily an indicator of performance.

So many consumers people look for a pillow that feels just right in the store. But a squeeze only tells you so much.

It takes about 10 to 15 minutes for your neck to relax onto the pillow, according to Susan Gordon, associate professor of physiotherapy at James Cook University in Australia.

“You will need a week sleeping on a pillow to work out if it really is the right pillow for you,” she says.

Others opt for trial and error: “The pillow that I have is too soft/hard/flat, so I’ll get a firmer/softer/fuller one next time.” Many give up and sleep with multiple pillows, though that can keep your head too high and throw off the natural curve of your neck. Twilight movie series download.

Consumer Reports suggests a more methodical approach to choosing a pillow.

Match Your Pillow to Your Sleep Position

Pasadena

Start your search by matching the pillow to your dominant sleep position: side, back, stomach, or combination. That’s the position you settle into and is likely to be your favorite, according to Rebecca Robbins, Ph.D., a fellow at the New York University School of Medicine and co-author of “Sleep for Success!” (AuthorHouse, 2010). Many pillows are now labeled this way, but the terms vary from brand to brand. Use our advice to fine-tune your shopping. Finally, check pillow return policies, so you don’t get stuck with a closet full of rejects.

Almost 70 percent of us sleep on our sides, according to a survey from Consumer Reports. A firm or extra-firm pillow is the best pillow to maintain the proper alignment or curve of the neck and head at what a study in a 2015 issue of Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found was the most comfortable height—10 centimeters, about 4 inches off the mattress. A traditional or contoured memory foam or latex pillow can support the head at the proper angle and might not flatten as quickly over time when compared with a polyester or down pillow.

Look for a pillow that supports or cradles the head without losing the natural curve of your neck. Start with medium-loft, medium-firm models filled with down alternative, memory foam, or latex foam. Loft is a pillow’s height as it lies flat on the bed.

Sleeping on your back is often associated with snoring or the more serious sleep apnea, in which a person stops breathing momentarily. Because gravity can cause the tongue to block the airway and create the disruptive buzzing, one solution is to prop up the sleeper using two to three firm pillows or a wedge pillow to elevate the top half of the body, according to Thomas Roth, Ph.D., founder of the Sleep Disorders Center at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit.

If you roll over to sleep, your face is very close to the mattress. A thin or soft and scrunchable pillow filled with down or feathers, a down alternative, polyester, or thin foam can keep your neck’s natural curve. But a firm, high-loft pillow could leave you with a sore neck.

If you’re a multiposition sleeper, the best pillow for you might have softer and firmer sections, or one that’s lower in the center (for back sleeping) and higher on the sides (for side sleeping). Buckwheat hulls and pillows made of multiple materials fit this bill.

Tip: Is Your Pillow Toast?

Most pillows last about two years. You should replace yours if it doesn’t pop back when you fold it in half, or in thirds for king-size pillows.
